At Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Barb studied harp with Jeanne Chalifoux, harpist with the National Symphony. After moving to Ohio, she studied with Joan Seymour, harpist with the Dayton Philharmonic.

Her current mentor is internationally acclaimed harpist Jan Jennings. Barb has been performing as a freelance harpist since 1985, playing for all occasions including weddings, receptions, parties, art gallery openings, retirement home performances, dinners and memorial services. She plays frequently at Haven Hospice.
